In this episode, we sit down with Sueng Lee, a Korean American artist and professor at LIU, for an inspiring conversation. Sueng shares his incredible journey, beginning with his childhood in South Korea, where he faced many challenges alongside his family, including his eventual move to the United States with his mother and five brothers.
He opens up about his time in school, his early passion for the arts, and his transformative years in Baltimore, where he had the opportunity to attend the Maryland Institute College of Art. Sueng takes us through his experiences at Pratt Institute, where he pursued a graduate degree in the arts, and the struggles of balancing creativity with making ends meet, including his time working as a taxi driver in New York City.
We dive into the art scene in NYC, explore Sueng's own artistic process, and learn about his time teaching as an adjunct professor before becoming a full-time art professor at LIU. He also talks about how he found his way to the North Fork, his current artwork, and his teaching philosophy, offering valuable lessons he’s learned along the way.
