Listen "The Justice Committee recommends some changes to our voting practices"
Episode Synopsis
This is a fascinating topic that’s sure to get some comments. The Justice Committee recommends passing the Electoral Amendment Bill which will prevent same-day enrolments (you can’t just turn up to vote on the day unregistered), and prisoners can’t vote. It will also ban a practice called “treating”, which is giving food, chocolate, gifts etc. to turn up to vote.Labour, The Greens, and Te Pāti Māori are all up in arms about this bill (no surprises there). The Greens think it would have life-long effects (especially on young people) 😳, and Te Pāti Māori says it would rig the next election. Do you think these proposed changes make sense?#familyfirstnz
