On Friday October 13, 1972, Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 was headed from Montevideo in Uruguay to Santiago in Chile for a rugby match. The plane was carrying the Uruguayan rugby team and some other friends and family members. While the plane was headed through the Andes mountains, it would tragically crash. The story of this crash, and the subsequent survival efforts, has been called the Andes flight disaster and the Miracle of the Andes.
