After their European tour Little Big will come back to Budapest in order to blow up the stage of Budapest Park — one of the largest dance floors in the Hungarian capital. The hottest rave band of Russia is on the top of dance charts and gets more and more fans in Europe. But is it only the music that makes Little Big the most significant musical project of today’s Russia?
Little Big emerged out of the Internet, which is often indiscriminate and chaotic in its liking. Although this time, the public didn’t make a mistake and chose the heroes needed for our time. Little Big play vigorous rave with numerous citations of Russian folk music. They call themselves rock-musicians, and it’s quite obvious that punk with its contempt for mainstream is close to them. But it’s crucial not just to listen to them, but to watch.
The first video «Everyday I’m Drinking», posted on You Tube in 2013 as a Fool’s Day joke, defined the leitmotiv for the band (which initially was conceived only as a one-off project): self-irony and usage of stereotypical images that foreigners associate with Russia. Even one look at the musicians in their stage outfits with 90s elements and multiple references to «Russian folk» gives an idea of the main band’s trait — the irony. Jokes on the verge of the foul, which inspire the band, do not just exploit attributes of «Russianness» and stereotypes about Russia, but disclose the «national idea» in its own way. The words «no future», «disappointed generation», «we living deprived», which are heard in Little Big compositions, are much closer to Russian reality and mood of the Russians than statements of state propaganda.
In the era of universal marasmus and absurd, sobering humour and self-irony will save us.
The salvation will happen on the 18th of July in Budapest Park.

После своего европейского тура Little Big вернутся в Будапешт, чтобы взорвать сцену Budapest Park – одной из крупнейших площадок венгерской столицы. Самая горячая рейв группа России возглавляет танцевальные чарты и привлекает новых поклонников в Европе. Но одна ли музыка делает Little Big главным музыкальным проектом современной России?
Little Big вышли из интернета, который часто бывает неразборчив в своих симпатиях. Но в этот раз народ не ошибся и выбрал героев, в которых нуждается наше время. Little Big играют энергичный рейв с цитатами из русской народной музыки. Сами они называют себя рок-музыкантами, и очевидно, что панк, с его презрением к мейнстриму, им не чужд. Но их важно не просто слушать, а смотреть.
Первый клип «Everyday I’m Drinking», выпущенный в 2013 как первоапрельская шутка, задал магистральную линию развития группы (которая изначально задумывалась как одноразовый проект): самоирония и использование стереотипных образов, которые ассоциируются у иностранцев с Россией. Один взгляд на музыкантов в сценических костюмах с элементами из 90-х и множеством отсылок к «русскому народному» уже дает представление о главной черте группы — иронии. Юмор на грани фола, вдохновляющий музыкантов, не просто эксплуатирует атрибуты «русскости» и стереотипы о России, а по-своему раскрывает «национальную идею», в том числе в видеоклипах группы. Слова «no future», «disappointed generation», «we living deprived», которые можно услышать в композициях Little Big, гораздо ближе российской действительности и настроениям россиян, чем утверждения правительственной пропаганды.
В век всеобщего маразма и абсурда нас спасет отрезвляющий юмор и самоирония.
Спасение состоится 18 июля в Budapest Park.
