Episode Synopsis

INSPIRE Devotionals With Emmanuel Afiawari Monday, January 6, 2025 Topic: DISCERN YOUR SEASON! Bible Text: John 2:4 AMP Jesus said to her, “[Dear] woman, what is that to you and to Me? My time [to act and to be revealed] has not yet come.” INSPIRATION: In the world, we're so used to the natural or climatic seasons, that most people get so carried away by them at the detriment of their spiritual insight, sensitivity and discernment. It would be a very big mistake to allow yourself to be controlled by the physical forces of nature at the expense of your spirit. Thus, Jesus addressed those who only understood natural occurrences but knew nothing about the spiritual and called them hypocrites. Why did Jesus call them hypocrites? Because they're not as sensitive and passionate about their spiritual seasons as they are their natural, thereby, living a double-standed life. He answered and said to them, “When it is evening you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red’; And in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times (Matthew 16:2‭-‬3). When you lack discernment, you struggle for relevance and prominence when you should be building capacity backstage while waiting for the right time. When you lack discernment, you'll not understand the times. Rather, you'll be forced to get ahead of God and get things done in violation of God's timing. Ask Saul who did; he paid heavily for it leading to a loss of his throne (1 Sam. 13: 9-14; 15:23). Jesus, knowing the cost of not discerning the times, told his mother, "My time has not yet come." Oh! What a profound statement to come from our Lord and perfect example!! No need for showmanship rather we're challenged to discern when to act and when not to. Whenever the temptation to act in certain ways come on us, we must discern the timing and determine who gets the glory from our actions. TODAY'S TAKE HOME: Develop spiritual sensitivity; discern timing. Avoid the consequences of getting ahead of God. Allow the Holy Spirit to influence your choices and actions at all times. PRAYER: Oh Lord, teach me how to yield to your will and perfect timing in all that concerns me. Cause your love to compel me to act right and to understand God's timing for each required action, so that ultimately, you get all the glory from my actions, in Jesus name.
