Grant Miller talks about the Run For Hops on Saturday March 11 to benefit PATH, The Hawaii Cycling Club activities including the Century Ride for Hospice April 9. Grant talks about his of off road biking and the trail cutting efforts of Big Island Mountain Biking ohana and PATH (People's Advocacy Trails Hawaii).Ellie Sumic has info on Lava Kids, and the Waikoloa Lavaman weekend including the March 31 Bike Works Sunset 5k Run/Walk.John Hill, Bike Works Mechanic has bike maintenance suggestions and Carolyn Comandini on what's available at Bike Works. Also a guest this week is Jeff Waraniak, who I met last summer in my hometown Detroit. Jeff is a mountain bike enthusiast and he told me a story about reaching out to the Big Island Mountain Bike ohana that Bike Works is such a part of and the warm welcome they gave him. He shared that story and also lots of positive stories about biking opportunities in Detroit and invitation to get in touch with him for a warm welcome if going to Detroit.Jeff is an Associate Editor at HOUR Detroit Magazine and has written many nice stories. We talked about couple subjects from some of his wonderful comprehensive storytelling. One about the DNR Outdoor Adventure Center and the impact of opening up in downtown Detroit. The other is about Detroit was certainly the city of Champions when in October 1935, the Tigers won their first World Series. In December, the Lions won their first NFL championship, and in April 1936 the Red Wings won their first Stanley Cup, and a day later, the Detroit Olympics, the Wings’ minor league affiliate, won their championship in the International Hockey League. Held all three titles. Like myself, many Detroiters did not know this till recently.
