Columbia-based Boone Health’s president traveled to mid-Missouri's Mexico this week to sign a letter of intent with Mexico/Audrain County officials and to outline plans to build a new multi-million dollar hospital in Mexico. Brady Dubois says downtown Mexico, Missouri would be the ideal location for the new hospital. He traveled to Mexico this week, and he also spoke to Mexico’s city council during its meeting. Mr. Dubois joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri", telling listeners that Boone Health is looking at building a new hospital that includes an emergency room. Mr. Dubois tells listeners the new hospital would have 18 to 25 in-patient beds, along with surgical areas and MRI. 939 the Eagle's Brian Hauswirth asked Mr. Dubois how much the proposed new hospital will cost. While Dubois didn't provide a dollar amount, he says hospital construction runs anywhere from $700 to $900 per square foot. He says they're looking at building a new 38,000 to 50,000 square foot hospital. Mr. Dubois also says the letter of intent provides the framework on how they'll approach this. Mexico and Audrain County have large elderly populations, and they’ve been without a hospital since Audrain County medical center closed its doors in 2022. Mr. Dubois tells listeners that the area is underserved and predicts a new hospital would be successful in Mexico:
