I first met Joshua four years ago through the Big brother big sister program when he was 12 years old. He's definitely had his ups and downs, and his growth the past four years has been extraordinary. I was actually surprised when he told me he wanted to come on the podcast and talk about mental health since he's always been very shy on camera. You wouldn't know it by interacting with him, but he came from an extremely challenging childhood background (which he talks about in the podcast) and as a result even as a 12 year old kid he had great self awareness from his adopted mom getting him all kinds of help from therapy, to mentors to playing music instruments, sports, etc. He was very nervous at the beginning of the podcast but notice how the tone of his voice and mental clarity shifts as soon as we started talking about how he wants what we talk about to benefit people. "Find a bigger why". It sounds cliché, but we really do have access to a whole lot more energy when our attention shifts from moving away from what we don't want to the impact we want to make on people.
