On June 11, the city of San Jose became the first municipality to update its zoning code in accordance withCalifornia Assembly Bill 1033, which went into effect at the beginning of the year. The law allows for local ordinances that permit homeowners to sell accessory dwelling units (ADUs) as condominiums, but cities must opt in.
