Listen "New series examines 2 murders solved in fight for Michael Morton's innocence"
Episode Synopsis
Michael Morton spent almost 25 years in prison for a murder he didn't commit, but it is often forgotten that his 2011 exoneration, accomplished despite six years of foot-dragging by Williamson County's chief prosecutor, solved two violent deaths. A new cable TV series will devote a 90-minute episode to the intertwined stories of Christine Morton, killed in 1986 in her Williamson County home, and Debra Baker, killed in a very similar manner in her North Austin home in 1988 — almost a year after Michael Morton began serving a life sentence for his wife's murder. The Morton and Baker stories are told through the eyes and experience of John Raley, a Houston civil lawyer who says the Morton case was a cautionary tale for prosecutors and investigators who jump to conclusions.
