Listen "Open Range Windbreaks with Garrett Dwyer"
Episode Synopsis
Welcome back to the American Cattlemen Podcast. Just ahead, we have Dustin Hector, He's the director of Business Development for the American Cattlemen Podcast, and he sits down with Garrett Dwyer with Open Range Windbreaks.
Garrett, a United States Marine Corps veteran and graduate of the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, operates a successful Angus and Hereford cow-calf operation in Wheeler County.
The inspiration for Garrett's portable windbreaks came during a brutally cold winter in 2022 when he was managing cattle in an open landscape with minimal natural shelter. Recognizing the need for a versatile, mobile solution, he designed two distinct windbreak models that address the challenges of protecting livestock during harsh weather conditions.
The first model, which sits on a 24-foot gooseneck trailer, includes a feeder and space for three large round bales. When deployed, it provides 70 feet of wind protection with hinged wings that can be easily opened or closed. This design allows ranchers to transport feed and shelter simultaneously, offering flexibility during severe weather events.
The second model, called the "Defender," is a more expansive windbreak spanning 120 feet with five interconnected panels that can be positioned in various configurations. Both models emphasize efficiency, durability, and ease of use, addressing the practical needs of modern cattle producers.
The Open Range Windbreaks are manufactured locally in Nebraska by a fellow cattleman who understands the rigorous demands of agricultural equipment. To demonstrate his confidence in the product, Garrett offers a one-year manufacturer's warranty, highlighting the windbreaks' quality and reliability.
The Open Range Windbreaks represent a significant advancement in livestock management, providing ranchers with a versatile tool to protect their cattle during challenging weather conditions.
