Listen "How Raymond Chandler's Writing Technique Can Help You With Your Story's Pacing"
Episode Synopsis
Raymond Chandler, author of novels such as The Big Sleep, had a unique writing method. He used to write on index cards. Why? So that his writing was dynamic. If nothing happened on the index card he finished writing on, he scrapped it. Each index card had to have something significant happen. That gave his novels energy and kept readers hooked. I love this technique. It totally aligns with the notion of trying to achieve the greatest impact in the least amount of words. This is a method any writer can utilize, even digitally. Just adjust the page margins. Try it out for yourself and see how much stronger your writing can become. BTW, I only discuss fiction writing in this episode but it works equally well with nonfiction.
